About Sharper Science
Dr. Jonathan I. Miller
Biologist, Science Education Specialist, Speaker
Jonny's career began as a biomedical scientist in England before transferring his research skills to ecology and conservation, establishing education and research programs in Latin America: from school field study programs to conservation genetics laboratories in universities and the world's first georeferenced genetic diversity database.
Jonny has taught in classrooms, labs and in the field for more than 20 years through his varied career, from inspiring a love of nature in kindergartners to training career scientists in labs and remote expeditions. Thanks to this diverse experience, Jonny has had the privilege of working with and learning from extraordinarily talented educators, scientists and engineers, administrators and leaders, both renowned and unknown.
"My greatest passion is to inspire young people to feel awe, appreciation and investment in the wonderful world around them and within them, and empower them to become good stewards of their health and environment. But while social media might sometimes amaze, the misinformation and anxiety that it propagates is intensifying challenges in teaching and learning.
Drawing on my experiences across educational levels, I founded Sharper Science to share strategies with teachers to overcome rising challenges and prepare students to excel in STEM careers. Moreover, science is the ultimate multi-disciplinary, solution-oriented subject - using the core principles of those strategies we coach educators of various subjects to maximize student skills and independence, giving students the best chance at wellbeing and academic success."
