Dr. Jonathan I. Miller
Biologist, Science Education Specialist, Speaker
Jonny's career began as a biomedical scientist before transferring his research skills to ecology and conservation, establishing education and research programs: from school field study programs to conservation genetics laboratories in universities and the world's first georeferenced genetic diversity database. Jonny has taught in classrooms, labs and in the field for more than 20 years through his varied career, from inspiring a love of nature in kindergartners to training career scientists in labs and remote expeditions. Thanks to this diverse experience, Jonny has had the privilege of working with and learning from extraordinarily talented educators, scientists and engineers, administrators and leaders, both renowned and unknown.
"My greatest passion is to inspire young people to feel amazement, appreciation and investment in the awe-inspiring world around them and within them. Teaching in varied settings has given me the opportunity to better understand the many challenges students and teachers face today, including social media, attention and anxiety struggles, and the often difficult transition across education levels. It also gave me the opportunity to experiment and design new strategies that help students develop the tools they need to be life-long learners."
Jonny founded Sharper Science to provide schools with student- and system-focused solutions that prepare students for STEM careers, help them make better decisions for their health and environment, and empower themselves through developing a sustainable mindset for wellbeing and success.
